Bundesliga Betting Preview | Week 5

The Bundesliga is four matchdays old and already there’s a familiar look to the top-five. Both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund occupy first and second with unblemished records whilst Wolfsburg and Schalke are two of the sides along with Eintracht Frankfurt trailing in their wake.

Wolfsburg, who pushed Bayern reasonably close last season, have started their new-season in decent shape despite the sales of Kevin De Bruyne and Ivan Perisic and their midweek win at home to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League was well received. New signing Julian Draxler scored the only goal of the game but Dieter Hecking’s men looked in charge.

The victory also extended the Wolves’ unbeaten start and maintained their outstanding record in front of their home fans at the Volkswagen Arena. Hecking’s troops have already returned successive Bundesliga victories on home soil this season and they’re now a club record 24 top-flight matches without defeat at the VA.

Next up is a visit from Hertha Berlin on Saturday afternoon, a side they’ve beaten in four of the last head-to-heads. The capital club are determined and organised outfit under Pal Dardai but tend to do their best business back in Berlin.

Hertha have won just three of 10 road trips under Dardai, suffering defeat on five occasions. They’re well worth opposing again this weekend with Wolfsburg -1 on the Asian Handicap looking a smart play at 1.86. With this selection, we’ll get our cash back if the hosts only win by one goal and pocket profit should the Wolves win by two goals or more.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s fixture between Stuttgart and Schalke seems to have split the oddsmakers but188BET’s 1.89 for the visitors off a scratch Asian Handicap 0 start looks a little too good to turn down. The Royal Blues were excellent as they dispatched APOEL 3-0 in Cyprus in Thursday night’s Europa League tie to make it three wins from four on their travels with 11 goals netted.

Schalke have settled well under new boss Andre Breitenreiter and that continental triumph followed up their brave 2-1 success over Mainz and they head to the Mercedes-Benz Arena to face a Stuttgart side that’s struggled to turn positive performances into points.

The Swabians have made their worst ever start to a Bundesliga season, losing all four games. Defensively the hosts have been dogged by the same old defensive flaws that have plagued the team for the past couple of seasons and left new head coach Alexander Zorniger scratching his head.

Stuttgart were beaten in both last season’s clashes against Schalke, including a humbling 4-0 loss on home soil. The visitors are worth siding with again, at a handy price this weekend.
